Countdown to London Riders championship

The preparations for the long awaited return of the London Riders Championship continues with the clock counting down until the event, which takes place at the Arena-Essex Raceway at 8pm this Friday, 15th October. A change in the opening match of the two meeting event will now see an all star Young Lions team, including the Hammers own Shane Hazelden and managed by former Hammer Phil Morris, take on the USA from 6.30pm.

Man charged with possesion of firearm

A MAN has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm in a public place following an incident in Grays. Police were called to Dell Road at about 1.40pm on Tuesday, October 12 following reports that a man had been seen with a handgun. A man was arrested about 15 minutes later in Derby Road.

Karate success for Grays club

The results were: 1st kata: Bethany West (x2). Kumite 1sts: Anne Sage, Adam, Casey Dolton, Connor Ford and Charlie Ford. Kata pairs 1sts: Daniel Frost and Victoria Westcott, Wiktoria Plich and Kirstie Fox.

Chingford 43 v 5 Thurrock

Thurrock’s run of three consecutive losses is the worst for four seasons when they crashed to defeat at the hand of in-form Chingford on Saturday. Confidence in the Thurrock camp is at a low at this present time and injuries to key personnel has not helped their cause

Indoor crickets bright start

Eathan Morris scored a fine 31 as Belhus "A" scored 88 for the loss of four wickets, with Braydon Scarlett giving fine support with 22 not out. But then James Bright for Belhus "B" hit a six to win the game as he finished on 22 not out and team-mate Harry Pacey hit an unbeaten 25.

Purfleet Quiz Night

A QUIZ night will be held at St Stephen's church this friday at 7.30pm in order to raise funds for the Bar 'n' Bus. Bar N Bus is a double decker bus that is kitted out with a tea bar, play stations and more traditional board games. It operates as a mobile youth outreach programme, working with 11 to 19 year olds. They average 20 young people on the bus each week, sometimes more, sometimes less. Last night the bus and the hot chocolate were very popular.

Rugby: Thurrock 13 v 18 Woodford

The scores stayed level until the break, Thurrock hoped that they could get some momentum after failing to get more than 3 phases together. A Woodford penalty early after the restart put them back in front, but the home side cranked up the pressure and excellent work from the Thurrock forwards allowed Bradleigh Rettigan to crash over, again the conversion went wide.

Double delight finale for Hammers

The fans of the Lakeside Hammers are in for a double dose of Speedway action as the Club ends its 2010 season on Friday 15th of October with two meetings for the price of one as a finale to the year.

Thurrock Hockey results

The score line slightly flattered Thurrock’s Men’s 1st XI as it was far from the normal slick passing side we are used to seeing. However it was the home side that took advantage of a defensive mistake, with Christian Jenkins on hand to tap the ball into an empty net.

Corringham Town Festival

Essex Over-60’s Beat Australians

Essex batted first, the Aussie attack lacked a Lillee, but the mostly military medium paced attack worked hard to contain the Essex batters and contain they did, Essex were just 56-2 after 18 overs, Don Curtis 26 and Ken Porter 2 were the early victims.

Thurrock Hockey Results

Thurrock started the second half as they ended the first, with a centre midfield partnership of Jacob Agoro and ‘Man of the Match’ Nick Stapleton controlling the game and giving the Thurrock wingers and strikers lots of the ball as the pressure built up on their opponents. This pressure then paid off as captain Steve Abbott scored from a well-worked short corner, levelling the score.
