Mother of daughter fatally injured in smash gives compensation to army hero

THE MOTHER of Louise Cooper, 23 who was killed by a lorry driver on the A13 has given all the compensation money to a wounded solidier reports claimsnational.co.uk Miss Cooper, from Chafford Hundred, was killed in February 2008 after a lorry ploughed into her as she exchanged details with another driver on the hard shoulder.

Cllr Anne Cheale held a charity dinner at the Riverview Restaurant in the South Essex College’s Woodview, Grays, campus in support of the NSPCC Tilbury branch. The meal was attended by 46 guests and over £850 was raised.

Primark extension to open this week

Primark at Lakeside Shopping Centre is opening its all new extension just in time for Christmas, on Friday 3rd December. The newly extended store will measure 83,300 sq foot retail, making it the fourth largest Primark in the UK. Primark continues to up its game in the fashion stakes and is known for creating up to the minute fashion at affordable prices. The retailer has increased the size of its departments at Lakeside so shoppers can revel in the wide choice of clothing, accessories, footwear and homeware on offer.

Feel the Love for Thurrock Youth Theatre!

Love was in the air for the members of Thurrock Youth Theatre this week as they performed a duo of excellent plays all about the trials and tribulations of finding that happy ever after with that perfect partner. ‘The Dating Game’ was the first performance of the night and truly showcased what a talented bunch these young actors are. Not only was this play performed by the Thurrock Youth Theatre, but it was also written by Alex Lawler, a member of the Thurrock Youth Theatre. No doubt, Alex’s creation was excellent and highlighted what an incredibly talented actor and scriptwriter he is.

Hockey: Clacton 0 v 2 Thurrock

This clash was always going to be a fast paced physical game, but it was Clacton that were the quickest out of the blocks putting the Tee's defence under pressure, but this was mopped up by the defence time and time again. This frustrated the home team as every strong passing attack was rewarded with nothing. After the first few minutes the Tee's upped their game and put together some fantastic passing moves of their own coming close numerous times but were thwarted by a resolute Clacton defence.

Motorists urged to kill their speed in Grays

Presenting the residents petition at full council, ward councillor Martin Healy said: “Motorists travelling southbound along Sherfield towards Grays Beach are approaching the pedestrian crossing too quickly. There are a lot of elderly residents living on Seabrooke Rise who use the pedestrian crossing and they are frightened. Some unfortunate motorists will leave it too late to stop and we fear that there will be a fatality.

Eastenders star’s sister is new fairy for panto!

The Thameside panto team are very pleased to announce that they have a new Forest Fairy - Kim Taylforth as Sarah's replacement. Kim is sister to ex-Eastender Gillian Taylforth and has had her own varied career playing Nancy Ray in ITV's London’s Burning; Marilyn Fenner in Bad Girls and Sharon Ingram in Five's soap opera Family Affairs.

Tube strike headache for Thurrock commuters

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: "It is incredible that LU management would not agree to a 12-week suspension of the cuts to allow a thorough safety evaluation on the impact on each station of their cuts plans. That shows complete and utter contempt for the safety of both their passengers and their staff. With more chaos as a result of infrastructure failures this morning, adding to a month of misery, Londoners can see the real impact of the LU/TfL cuts plans for themselves and it is those very same safety-critical cuts that are at the heart of this dispute."

Concerned Conservative slams green belt development in Aveley

The Little Thurrock councillor told the full council that he had had a meeting with the newly formed Aveley Residents Committee who were very concerned at the proposals that go before the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporations planning committee tomorrow (Monday). Aveley councillor Wendy Herd outlined the efforts the Aveley councillors had made to fight for the local residents.

Youths vandalism nearly led to victim losing job

Grays youth court heard that the teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had jumped on the roof of the parked green peugeot after a drunken night out in Grays. His actions caused £1636 worth of damage but in a victim impact statement the owner of the vehicle told the court that the inconvenience had severely impacted on her job and caused them great stress, inconvenience and financial loss.
