Women cut from vehicle after seven car pile up on M25

A WOMAN was cut from a vehicle after a seven-car collision on the M25 on Saturday night. The collision occurred at 7pm between junction 30 (Lakeside) and junction 29 (Upminster).

Chafford cashier denies role in £3m bank fraud

A ROYAL Bank of Scotland cashier from Chafford Hundred tried to steal nearly £3m from customer accounts, the Old Bailey heard. Derek Annan, 24, allegedly passed on personal financial details, including passwords and security details, to fraudsters while working at RBS branches in Chelmsford and Colchester reports The Thurrock Enquirer.

Ebb and Flow flows to the Civic Hall

EBB and Flow: an opera mash-up is a newly devised performance which features music from three operas: Dido and Aeneas by Purcell, Mozart’s Idomeneo and Richard Taylor’s The Purfleet Opera: Ludd and Isis. This unique evening of song has been devised, written and created by the Royal Opera House's 140-voice Thurrock Community Chorus and includes performances from soloists from the Chorus under the baton of Jeremy Haneman. It is the first semi-staged performance for the Thurrock Community Chorus since The Purfleet Opera: Ludd and Isis was performed at the opening of the Royal Opera House Bob and Tamar Manoukian Production Workshop in 2010.

Plans moving ahead for new costume centre

PLANS are moving ahead for the new Costume Centre on the High House Production Park withThurrock Council now having granted planning permission for the new building. Nicholas Hare Architects, who also designed the Bob and Tamar Manoukian Production Workshop on the site, have been appointed to carry out the design work.

Delight as Orsett Hall given permission to expand

Orsett Hall Hotel has been given permission to build 22 new bedrooms as well as state of the art leisure facilities. The expansion will see a whole new block to the rear of the Prince Charles Avenue hotel.

Social worker nominated for her outstanding work with children

Nominated for the Children’s Social Worker of the Year, Emma will find out if she has won at the official award ceremony which will take place at the Lancaster Hotel in London on Friday 29 November. There are 49 finalists across eleven categories and winners from each category will compete against each other to be named the overall “Social Worker of the Year 2013.”

Cars and transporter on fire in Little Thurrock

FIRE CREWS were called to the Globe estate on Tuesday night after reports of a large fire. On attendance, fire crews found a car transporter and five other vehicles on fire. Crews used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire by 23:38hrs.

Tickets selling well for the GIANT of a panto at Thameside Theatre

Man wanted after confrontation in doctors surgery in Grays

The man was found in the kitchen at The Shehadeh Medical Centre in Dell Road at 3pm on September 6. He was challenged by a staff member and left. Some food from the fridge and a hand blender are believed to have been taken. The man is described as white with dark brown curly hair. He was wearing a grey tracksuit.

Reed help South Essex College students on job search

Reed has teamed up with national awarding organisation, NCFE, to set-up an Employment Brokerage Team, accessible to students across its three main sites in Basildon, Southend and Thurrock to help them secure work with a range of local employers. Students at level 2 and level 3, who have good attendance and are hitting deadlines, will have access to vacancies which are rarely publicly advertised and will also receive tailored training in the skills they need to win these hidden jobs such CV preparation, application and interview skills.

THE WEST of the borough was thrown into chaos on Sunday afternoon. M25 Essex - Severe delays on M25 anticlockwise at J31, A1306 (West Thurrock). Travel time is over 60 minutes. Congestion to J3, M20 (Swanley Interchange).

Essex Sports Village goes into adminstration

ESSEX SPORTS VILLAGE has gone into administration. The sports village is based at what is commonly known as the Old Firemans Club on Purfleet Road, Aveley. A statement by the chairman, Luke Woodward on Companies House informed all interested parties "that the company was wound-up voluntarily” at a meeting in Southend on October 2nd.

MP stands up for vulnerable witnesses

STEPHEN Metcalfe, local MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, rose on the floor of the House of Commons yesterday to ask the Solicitor-General what steps are being taken support vulnerable witnesses and victims involved in abuse cases. The Solicitor-General, Oliver Heald QC MP, informed the House that The Crown Prosecution Service takes allegations of sexual abuse and domestic violence very seriously and ensures that prosecutors are well equipped to handle those cases. He commented on the vital role of witness care units before adding that the Director of Public Prosecutions will shortly publish final guidelines on prosecuting cases of child sexual abuse.

Police probe fifty sheds near Grays

POLICE are appealing for information after 50 sheds at the allotments in Rectory Road, Orsett, were broken into. The burglaries happened sometime between 6pm on Thursday October 10 and 9am on Friday October 11. The sheds were all broken into but officers think the suspect may have been disturbed as a wheelbarrow full of items was left by at the gate.
