A STAR-STUDDED cast is set to appear at the annual Black History Month in Thurrock on Sunday. Rising stars of Afropop/Afrobeat Mista Silva and Moelogo will be taking to the stage of the Thameside Theatre. Mista Silva is dubbed the modern voice of this generation, bringing Afrobeats to a new audience.
PREGNANT women and mothers are invited to have their say about NHS-funded maternity services. NHS England has this week begun asking the Friends and Family Test (FFT) question in every NHS maternity unit across the country including both Basildon and Southend Hospital. Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) across south Essex are encouraging all local residents to take part in the survey to help them to monitor the quality of local maternity services.

A THURROCK Council has been accused of making indecent photographs of and sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13. Ian Rayment, of Lower Crescent, Linford, Essex, gave no indication of plea at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court today reports the Barking and Dagenham Post.

TWO surgeons from Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge have told how they were dropped onto a crane in order to operate on a man who had his leg trapped.

He selected cans of beer from a shelf, dropped the pack, picked it up again then left the shop making no attempt to pay. The council’s trading standards team is offering this test which will be carried out of charge. Drop off points have been set up across the borough to make this service available to as many people as possible. STEPHEN Metcalfe, local MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, joined staff and supporters of St Luke’s Hospice last week to help break new ground for the forthcoming development. Together with Gerry Peaty, Chairman of St Luke’s Trustee Board, Mr Metcalfe picked up a shovel to mark the beginning of the building of a new vibrant Day Therapy, Assessment and Support Centre which will enable the Hospice to take a significant step forward in helping more people and enable them to offer a greater variety of services in the future.
THE STAR OF this years Thameside panto, Natalie Cassidy is set to return to East Enders.
Natalie, who plays Sonia returns in January to the role she played for (on and off) for 14 years. Natalie recently spoke to YT at the launch of the Thameside panto and although she spoke of her love for East Enders, gave no hint that she would be returning to the award-winning soap.
A-LEVEL student Dannie Slade returned from a magnificent trip to the USA where she spent a week visiting prestigious US universities and experiencing life as an American student. As part of the Sutton Trust US Programme, Dannie spent the week residing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The programme provides international opportunities for talented young people from low income families.
