THURROCK Courts Players are back treading the boards at the Thameside Theatre next week but this time with a two-for-one offer! The two plays are both going to be entered for drama festivals outside the borough.
I am proud to represent a constituency with a strong manufacturing base and a strong and vibrant logistics industry. Apprenticeships have always been a feature of these industries. When I meet the wealth creators in Thurrock, without exception they are people who have learned their skills in the workplace. That fact needs to be understood. For many people, choosing an apprenticeship will be the most effective route to their personal advancement. I would like to highlight some successful local programmes and, in doing so, highlight some areas where the Government could do more to encourage better apprenticeships.
WHAT a night... Simply the best night out I have ever had in Essex. Having never been to a
comedy club before. I had no idea what I was letting myself in for, however from the second my fiancée and I arrived I knew it was going to be a good night. We drove through the Orsett Hall entrance following the trail of glowing lights leading to the car park, and listened for the sound of laughter to lead us to the pavilion. I’m sure this plan would have worked if we weren’t 2 hours early; so instead we followed the pathway marked ‘comedy club’ to check out the pre show buffet and help prop up the bar.
IT WAS a cold Saturday lunchtime but tucked away at Creation Studios on the Brentwood Road, Queensburys were beavering away at rehearsal. A little like Free, a little like Kings of Leon but most importantly, a distinctive mature sound all their own.
We started with a selection of vegetarian starters. The special bhajia was indeed special with crispy potato slices that were enriched by a mild chutney. We complimented it with a mild chilli paneer which contained a stir fry of peppers, onions and hot chillies.
THURROCK Choral Society will be holding its Spring Concert on Saturday 23rd March 2013 at Grays Parish Church at 7pm, when the programme will include works by the eminent British composers, Edward Elgar and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor - and of course sung in the English language!
THERE IS always something fascinating in the alcove/gallery at the Thameside complex.Last week was no exception as all the Sparks Will Fly globes were gathered in one place.
Amuse Bouche: "Egg and Soldier" This was delightful first course. You have to be curious when you are served with a boiled egg on a bed of straw! But deep within is the spicy delights of chorizo. It really does set the scene. Roast Duck Breast: Liver and foie gras parfait, plum and almond The combination of textures and tastes are outstanding. We would recommend this with a Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. The breast was succulent and all the elements perfectly complimented each other.
NOW, we are sure if you are sitting at the Orsett Cock roundabout wondering where those temporary traffic lights cam from, then you will not be extolling the virtues of the imminent sunset. However, we wanted to use the beautiful sunsets to showcase the work of photographer, Rob Lay.
ONE OF the best cover bands in Essex is set to play the Corringham Village Hall this Friday. Hedgehog have a dynamite set of covers from Motorheads Ace of Spades to Kings of Leon's Your Sex in on Fire.
The White Hart Inn is only 3 minutes walk from Grays train station and the town centre, and has its own parking facilities at the back of the building right next to a huge beer garden; so whether you’re popping in for a quick bevy or looking to hang out for the night, you are perfectly positioned for an easy ride home.
THE eponymous host of Later…with Jools Holland will meet students and leading industry representatives at the £13m state-of-the-art technical training and rehearsal facility for the performing arts industry and home of The National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural’s Annual Conference on 6 and 7 March.
THE MAYOR OF THURROCK and members of the Thurrock business community gathered together at the launch of the Oriental Pan-Asian restaurant in Fleming Road, Chafford Hundred. The audience were treated to a special treat of a lovely buffet at the restaurant which was formerly called 210 BC but is now under news ownership.
The Towers of Ilium is inspired by the Trojan War and local people are needed to play the role of the ‘Trojans’ in the procession which will be filmed as part of the work. This exciting project will use the landscape of Coalhouse Fort Park as a stunning backdrop to a dramatic procession reflecting the history of the site and weaving classical tales of heroes and war together with Thurrock’s past.
