THE POLICE expected a huge convoy of cars, motorbikes and protestors to descend upon the Coryton Oil Refinery in Thurrock this morning as part of a concerted campaign against the petrol price rises. But whereas over 500 people protested at Stanlow near Chester, eight people turned up in Corringham.

It’s Eddie versus Stuart as phoney war in council elections start

Instead it appears that the controversial councillor who was at the centre of the planning committee controversy has decided to take on the former deputy mayor, cllr Eddie Hardiman in the ward of Stanford West. Many had expected councillor Hardiman to quit local politics after the debacle of "Winegate" back in November last year but it appears that Eddie will let the electorate judge him at the ballot box.

Councillors’ concerns over Stanford blackspot

Sadly, everyone who lives on or uses this road knows that this was not an isolated incident. We have been asking for some time for safety improvements on this stretch of road, only to be told that the accident statistics do not warrant it. But good safety management is not just about waiting for accidents to happen; it also involves being pro-active and dealing with risks before they lead to tragedy.
