Marks and Spencers re-launches at intu Lakeside

THE store at intu Lakeside Shopping Centre re-launched this morning (Thursday, May 29) and now offers customers in Thurrock and the wider Essex area even more shopping options across fashion, beauty, homeware and food, with the addition of a new Beauty department, increased fashion ranges, and a brand new café.

Stanford war memorial group appeal to residents

STANFORD residents who will have noticed the recent restoration works completed on the war memorial on The Green, can now begin to look forward to Phase Two of the restoration beginning on their beloved war memorial. Following the deep steam clean by local businessman and wife team, David and Marie Adamson, residents will soon start to see some more of the work which is being planned to commemorate the beginning of The Great War, now commonly known as World War One.

Sainsbury’s looking for charity to help

Digital eagle is coming to Thurrock

Using Essex Chambers’ expertise this event aims to promote and boost business in the Thurrock area. This month they welcome Digital Eagle, Joseph Cooksey, as their guest speaker from Barclays Bank. The focus will be about growing your business digitally and Joseph will be talking about the business benefits of utilising digital tools in real terms with some simple tricks using social media and the internet.

Slovakian lorry driver fined for tail-gating in Dartford tunnel

A LORRY driver has been fined for tailgating after being stopped during an Essex Police operation aimed at improving commercial vehicle road safety. An articulated HGV was seen only a few feet from a VW Golf car travelling through the Dartford tunnel into Essex.

Thurrock businesses to benefit from changes in the way Thurrock Council pays its invoices.

KATHRYN Adedeji, Thurrock Council’s head of commercial services, said: “The council processed nearly 70,000 invoices in 2012/13 and nearly two-thirds of them were for under £500. All those relatively small payments required as much processing time as one for a million pound project.

Impulse Leisure sign key partnership to boost swimming numbers

IMPULSE Leisure has signed up to a two-year partnership with the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) in a bid to get more local people into swimming, to help improve their overall health and fitness. As well as improving levels of participation in general swimming and swim tuition, one of the objectives of the Partnership Provider Programme (PPP) is to increase the amount of schools utilising Impulse Leisure’s pools to aide in their achievement of Key Stage 2 criteria. This aims to ensure all primary school children can swim 25 metres before going on to secondary school.

Come and meet the Bookstart Bear

EVERY parent is a hero to their children, but even heroes need a helping hand to hone their skills. That’s why this June, Thurrock Council’s libraries service is asking parents and carers in the borough to don their superhero masks, reveal their secret powers and go with their children on a quest to find a hero-themed and free National Bookstart Week event.

Thameside Academy make big local decisions

ANDREW Blakey from the Riverside Community Big Local steering group went into Thameside Academy to explain to Shamid Ali and Michael Abebgo of the school council about what the Riverside Community Big Local were hoping to achieved. Shamid and Michael later reported to the Governing Body of the Academy as to what the council had been doing and considering, the Big local concept generated a lots of interest.

Five million cigarettes smuggled through Tilbury seized in Harlow

OFFICERS from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) seized five million duty free cigarettes and arrested five men after a raid at an industrial unit in Harlow. HMRC was alerted to the goods after UK Border Force stopped an unaccompanied trailer which arrived at the Port of Tilbury from Sweden on 20 May 2014.
