Crime wave continues as a 100 cars stolen in April

Alan Twine, Thurrock crime reduction officer, said: "Thieves often steal number plates to commit other crimes such as making off without paying for petrol, so it can cause a lot of hassle for the car owner if their plates are stolen. "Invest in irreversible screws for your number plates if possible to help prevent this and stay vigilant around your area and report anyone behaving suspiciously around vehicles to police immediately."

On Thursday evening (April 14) a minibus was taken from William Edwards School in Stifford Clays Road and later found abandoned but seriously damaged nearby. The local Thurrock Rugby Club in Long Lane, Grays later reported major damage to their club house and theft of money and Thurrock Harriers Athletics Club then reported that their premises had been broken into and damaged caused. It is believed that the minibus was used in both incidents to break in.

Metal thefts land men in court

A man has been charged in connection with an attempted theft of metal from a building in Lenthall Avenue, Grays. It is alleged that at around 1am on Wednesday, April 13, suspects attempted to steal an estimated £300 worth of lead flashing.

Police day of action judged a success

A safety arch was deployed at Chafford Hundred railway station footbridge to detect people travelling to the retail area to commit crime. More than 230 people passed through the safety arch, and no weapons were found. Chief Insp Paul Moor, Thurrock district commander, said: "Safety arches are an effective way for us to deal with people travelling to the area with the intention of committing crime.

Grays woman given compensation over wrongful arrest

CCTV footage seized four weeks earlier had not been viewed and when it was, after Mrs Bennett's arrest, it showed she had paid for her petrol. Tesco staff at the Chadwell St Mary filling station had also told police the suspect was a man and this was not entered on the crime report. Mrs Bennett was eventually released and returned to the A13 to collect her car, only to find that it had been stolen.

The burglary occurred over the weekend prior to the start of their busy season which has set them back weeks and cost them an awful lot of their own time and money to get put right. Two arrested over metal thefts

At 3.30am on Monday, April 11, police were called to reports of suspects allegedly stealing metal from the roof of the building. Officers attended the incident seven minutes later and arrested a 26-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both from Grays, on suspicion of theft.

Van stolen at knifepoint in Grays
