Wife jailed over benefit fraud

Mrs Jeffries was interviewed under caution and after initially refuting the fact that they were still living as man and wife, she admitted it. Mr Jeffries also admitted they had not separated and they had planned the fraud together in advance of the first claim.

Single mother jailed for benefit fraud

The offence came to light following information passed to Lambeth Council’s anti-fraud division from Thurrock Council. Olayemi-Akande pleaded guilty on September 14, 2010, at Camberwell Green Magistrates Court to nine charges of falsely obtaining housing and council tax benefits in excess of £26,000.

Jailed truancy mother offends again.

Magistrates were told that she had failed to engage with Thurrock Council’s Education Welfare service which had tried to meet with her to offer support several times. Two children, aged nine and six, missed 45½ days and 44½ days respectively in 15 school weeks. Previously she had served ten days of a 28-day custodial sentence and the latest prosecution also included breach of a previous conditional discharge. The mother, who admitted the charges, received a 28 days prison sentence for all three offences to run consecutively – 84 days in total.

Appeal after stabbing in Purfleet

The incident happened at Meads Corner, Arterial Road, shortly after 4am on Sunday March 6, 2011 as customers were leaving the Circus Tavern. A 25-year-old man from Grays was stabbed three times in the torso after he and his friends are thought to have been involved in an altercation with a group of other men on a forecourt between the nightclub and a nearby petrol station.

Teen victim of attempt robbery at Lakeside

At 5.25pm on Monday, February 21, a suspect approached the victim and demanded his mobile phone. He threw him across a car and punched him in the face, causing a black eye and a broken tooth. Nothing was stolen.

Man attacked in Tilbury

At 10pm on Sunday, February 6, a suspect assaulted the victim, causing cuts to his arm, hand and forehead before stealing £100 cash and an Ipod, worth an estimated £50.
