Police crackdown on crime in borough continues

Officers, accompanied by Trading Standards and HM Revenue and Customs executed a warrant at an office in The Queensgate Centre, Grays. A quantity of cigarettes, tobacco and jewellery were seized, as well a number of counterfeit DVDs and two air weapons.

Petrol prices may fuel crime spree in Thurrock

The latest incidents follow a recent police appeal after over 10 cars had their fuel tanks drilled to steal the fuel in Godman Road, Chadwell-St-Mary on February 9. Over £345 worth of fuel has been stolen from the cars, ranging from Ford’s, a Jaguar, a Renault and a Vauxhall. Over £1,300 damage has been caused to the fuel tanks.

Suspensions following taxi checks

Thurrock Council’s Chair of Public Protection, Councillor Wendy Curtis said: “These checks are part of our continued commitment to ensuring that licensed taxis are safe for the people of Thurrock. We would also like to remind people they should only ever use licensed taxis – it is easy to forget, especially late at night when you want to get home.”

Crackdown on crime in Thurrock

DCI Alan Cotgrove, said: "This operation has been carried out to disrupt the activity of those who commit crime across Basildon and Thurrock. Day by day we are out on the streets stopping crime, but today has seen us out in force making sure those that live in or visit the area and commit crime have nowhere to hide.

Dozens of vehicles checked in police clampdown

Examiners from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) also took part in the operation. Four mechanical offences were discovered and two vehicles were seized for having no insurance.

Pedestrian struck and killed by car in Purfleet

The incident happened at around 7pm last night on Tank Hill Road, Purfleet, when a man in his thirties was hit by a vehicle travelling along the road. Two people have been arrested following the incident.

Man temporarily blinded after attack at Railway Tavern in Stanford

“This was a nasty attack on this man, who initially had his sight impaired due to the injuries. Thankfully there has been no lasting damage but it clearly could’ve turned out differently. I am certain that someone in the pub that night knows the suspects, and I would appeal to their conscience to come forward and tell us, as their actions could have been life changing for this victim.”

Swordsman swipes hundreds at Ockendon Co-op robbery

A man dressed in dark clothing, wearing a balaclava, entered the store in Canterbury Parade, at just before 10pm last night, Tuesday, February 15, and threatened staff with a sword.They were forced to hand over money from the till totalling several hundred pounds.

Teen robbed in Brennan Road, Tilbury

Investigating officer, Pc Richard Smears, said: “This must have been very frightening for this lad, who was walking on his own when he was set upon by these two robbers. The descriptions of the suspects are fairly detailed, so if you recognise this pair or witnessed this robbery, I need to hear from you.”

Police go walkabout in Grays next week

Alongside the event a Partner Walkabout Day will also take place in and around the town centre. The highly successful events allow residents and members of the community to raise concerns direct with officers. Flyers and postcards are distributed before the event to allow problems to be highlighted – then on the Walkabout Day as many of these issues as possible are solved immediately.

Youths sought after attack on train

Investigators have also released a CCTV image of two men they would like to identify and talk to in connection with the the incident, which took place just before 6.30pm on Sunday, 16 January.

Police announce zero increase in council tax contributions

The police council tax for a Band D property will be the same as last year at £132.12 ( Band D is used as the base for calculating the tax). This means that council tax payers in Essex will not see any increase in their council tax for policing. Acting Chairman of Essex Police Authority, Neil Macdonald said: "It is good news that the people of Essex will not have to pay anymore than they have in terms of council tax for policing in the next year.

Man sought after knifepoint robbery at Grays Co-Op

At 6.10pm a man entered the store and threatened the female cashier with a knife asking her to open the till which she refused to do, the man then tried to force his way behind the till area but was prevented from doing so by the cashier at great personal risk to herself. He then snatched a packet of cigarettes before making off from the store
