Curry clue to Stanford garage robbery

Staff at the Jet garage in Southend Road, Stanford Le Hope, were confronted by five or six men on Wednesday night. One of the employees was punched in the face. The gang made off with £4,000 worth of cigarettes and several hundred pounds in cash.

Only use licensed taxis

There are two kinds of licensed taxis – the first are Hackney Carriages and in Thurrock have yellow stickers and yellow license plates. They can be hailed in the street or be hired from a taxi rank and must use a meter for any journey. Private hire vehicles have green stickers and plates and they must be pre-booked and cannot be hailed on the street.

Community payback clear snow

Community Payback is a scheme which provides the community with unpaid work carried out by convicted offenders. The scheme publicly demonstrates that offenders are giving back something to society and is supported by the Thurrock Community Safety Partnership and Thurrock Council. During the first six months of 2010, Thurrock Council has benefitted from over 8,600 hours of unpaid work being provided across 24 projects in support of the local community, representing over £50,500 worth of labour at minimum wage rates.

Police warning after attempt car theft while owner de-iced car

POLICE are reminding Thurrock residents to be extra vigilant while de-icing vehicles after a thief tried to steal a car in Aveley this morning (Wednesday, December 1). The victim was de-icing a peugeot while in Manning Street at 6.45am. At that time a suspect got into drivers seat and drove away but crashed causing £500 worth of damage to the bumper before running away.

Youths vandalism nearly led to victim losing job

Grays youth court heard that the teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had jumped on the roof of the parked green peugeot after a drunken night out in Grays. His actions caused £1636 worth of damage but in a victim impact statement the owner of the vehicle told the court that the inconvenience had severely impacted on her job and caused them great stress, inconvenience and financial loss.

Tilbury teen driver caught with crack cocaine

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was driving on the Chadwell Road in Grays on the 17th September when police stopped him. The court heard that the youth gave the police a false name but it was soon established that he had neither a driving licence nor insurance in respect of the vehicle.

Youth fined for smashing up mother’s house

The court heard that the youth smashed a door, a wooden bannister, various items of crockery, three picture frames, a wooden cabinet and a Sky remote control to the value of £200. His mother was present at court and told the presiding magistrate that although her son is living with his aunt, the family are trying to get back together.

Colombians jailed over Tilbury cocaine haul

Preciado and Quinones were arrested by officers from the UK Border Agency when the Ems Trader, the container vessel they had been hiding on over the Christmas period, docked at the Port of Tilbury on 27 December last year. The ship had set sail from Colombia on 15 December and stopped at the Port of Rotterdam before travelling on to Tilbury.

Police seek man in green car after several incidents near schools

In the first incident on November 23 a boy riding a bike was smacked on the bottom as he cycled past a man who got out of a green Ford Focus on Victoria Avenue, Grays. Two girls reported being watched by a man, in a green Mondeo, outside their school in Ward Avenue, Grays on November 24 and police have received a third hand report that a man driving a green Ford Focus approached a girl near Grays School but was chased off by older students from the school.

Two children knocked down in Chadwell

Two young children were knocked down by a Ford Galaxy. The two young children who are 7 and 5 years of age received serious injuries in the collision and were taken to the Royal London Hospital. The driver of the blue Ford Galaxy was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody.

T-shirts of hurt mark domestic violence week

THIS week is the start of 10 Days of Action to end violence against women and on Tuesday 23rd November, Thurrock Women’s Aid held a visual display to remember the 100 women who are killed each year due to domestic abuse. The clothes line project is a visual display of t-shirts with graphic messages and illustrations that have been designed by survivors of violence or by friends and families of survivors.

Police launch Xmas operation at Lakeside

Sgt Anna Brennan added: “Lakeside is and always has been a safe place to shop, and with the additional police resources in place through Operation Christmas Presence, we can not only reassure shoppers of this safety, but also send out a robust message to criminals that they are not welcome here.” Paul Lancaster, general manager at Lakeside Shopping Centre, said: “With late opening hours, Lakeside is the perfect place to shop this Christmas. Throughout December, we’ll be offering our popular, free Shop & Drop where shoppers can securely drop their bags off at the desk on Level 1 by Next, and then collect them later by car from an outside collection point on their way home.”
