A GROUNDBREAKING partnership between Thurrock schools and India was celebrated at Ormiston Park Academy last week. Connecting classrooms sees Ormiston Park Academy, Dilkes primary, East Thurrock primary and East Tilbury infants (as well as schools in Bromley) link up with schools in India.
A PACKED house at Gateway Academy came together to celebrate the achievements of last years students as well as many other students still at the school. Headteacher Kevin Sadler paid tribute to the students for their achievements both academic and in extra-curricular form as the school forges ahead.
Senior Project Worker for Zinc, Sonia Cakebread said, “We are delighted to be able to expand our work with vulnerable young people in Thurrock thanks to the support we have received from Thurrock Development Corporation.” She added. “Zinc is committed to working with disadvantaged and disabled young people and will continue to pursue further funding to do similar projects in Thurrock in the future.”

Ama Bankah, 31, had been working as a supply teacher, three years ago, when the practice came to light.
The General Teaching Council's professional conduct committee heard Ms Bankah claimed the placard was used as a 'behaviour management technique'.Every time she rang a bell, all the children had to sit quietly and those who didn't would be 'caught' by the 'hangman' which was the name of the picture on the placard.
On Friday the school helped raise funds as Oliver has been accepted for an operation in the United States where he would have to stay for around a month. Pupils came to class dressed as everything from cowboys to nurses. Oliver’s family is trying to raise £40,000 before April for the trip and op which will release the tension in his legs so that he may not need a wheelchair as he grows older.
Prison! Me? No Way! is a highly successful crime prevention workshop which visited Gable Hall School, Corringham, and Hassenbrook School, Stanford-le- Hope, following funding from the Thurrock Community Safety Partnership. Volunteer prison officers were joined by Essex Police, Essex Fire and Rescue Service, Thurrock Women’s Aid and local magistrates at the event. The message from all representatives was the same: committing a crime will affect your life, family, job prospects and ultimately your future.

YES, you have read that correctly: 16 GCSE's! On Thursday night, Daria attended the Ormiston Park Academy, Presentation Evening to pick up the award for Outstanding Student of the Year. As Deputy Head Huw Derrick said: "I scoured the papers and couldn't find another student in the country that had done as well as Daria."
For two nights and playing to packed crowds, Let Him Have It has been a living, breathing example of how the course works as a number of disciplines across the curriculum. Let Him Have It is based on the story of Derek Bentley, a british teenager, hanged for the murder of a policeman in 1953.

As you may well know, Ormiston Park Academy has a hopeful future ahead with all its exciting plans. Thurrock knew they had to dig deep in the second half as they would be playing against the wind and uphill against a determined Havering team. This was certainly the case and Thurrock demonstrated a great sense of team spirit in keeping out the Havering strike force. However, with ten minutes left, Havering's pressure paid off when the Thurrock midfield lost the ball and Havering whipped in a shot that went past the outstretched Thurrock keeper.
