MP congratulates William Edwards after “Outstanding” Ofsted

THURROCK MP Jackie Doyle Price was over-joyed that William Edwards school and sports college has been rated as "Outstanding" after an Ofsted inspection. While interviewing Jackie on Saturday in the constituency, Jackie wanted to make special mention of the school's success.

Festive cheer without the beer

Alcohol is not necessary to enjoy the festive period and members of Thurrock Council’s road safety team were in Grays High Street on Tuesday (7 December) afternoon to prove it. They were offering shoppers and passers-by free “mocktails” (non-alcoholic cocktails) as well as alcohol free wine, beer and even mulled wine — which was doubly welcome on a freezing day.

Lakeside lake search for missing man

POLICE are continuing to search the Lakeside area for a missing dementia sufferer. Michael Forrest, 63, went missing from his home in Ockleford Avenue, Chelmsford near to 8am on Tuesday December 7th. Six hours later he was seen on CCTV trying to withdraw money from a cash machine outside the Tesco store at Lakeside. CCTV images later showed him walking away towards the lake adjoining the shopping centre.

Andrew Lamb: Sporting legend passes away

Andrew was a prolific cricketer and a member of the strong Thurrock Interknit team, which was based in Grays. He once guested for the Essex Club and Ground cricket team and was asked by the great captain of Essex, Tom Pearce, to bowl a couple of overs. In his 20′s and 30′s, he achieved a high standard as a football referee, officiating all over Essex and the Home Counties and included an appointment as linesman at the FA Amateur Cup semi-final played at The Ova

Thurrock had a purple patch on thirty six minutes, it started with a long clearance by Joe Woolly which found David knight who did well to control the ball, he laid the ball out wide for Craig Dobson on the right flank, Dobson’s cross was long but Dean Cracknell running into the box struck a fine shot that was well saved by keeper Kitteridge and out for a corner. From the corner Kenny Clark rose to head and again the keeper pushed the ball out for a corner. This time the corner was deep to the far post and found Matt Bodkin, his volley was saved for yet another corner, from this came Thurrock’s best chance finding Phil Anderson unmarked and with a free header but unfortunately his aim was just to high as the ball cleared the bar.

GRAYS ATHLETIC produced their best performance of the season to hold the league leaders 1-1 in an exciting game at Summers Lane. For those who had endured underwhelming performances at Ware and Enfield to name just two, this was Julian Dick's Grays realising its potential for the first time.

Waders to celebrate fifteenth birthday

Credit Union to launch on Monday

The Essex Savers net Credit Union for Thurrock is being launched at the Civic Offices, New Road, Grays, between 10am and noon on Monday (13 December). The event is open to the public who will be able to find out how to start saving with the credit union.
