Wood chip fire in Bulphan

Crews were called to a farm in Dunnings Lane after fire broke out in a 100 tonne pile. As firefighters dealt with the blaze, the farmer assisted with a digger pulling out the burning wood chips so that crews can damp them down.

IT WAS a double celebration for William Edwards school as they were adjudged outstanding by Ofsted in the same week where popular deputy head Steve Munday was appointed headteacher of the Stifford Clays school. There were celebrations throughout the school as headteacher John King announced all the good news at a special assembly at the school this morning.

Head of Music at Hassenbrook School Miss Furniss said: ‘We have continued to support the MS charity over the years since an ex-pupil's family were affected by the condition. It is the most common disabling neurological disease affecting young adults and we feel it is a worthwhile charity for a secondary school to support.

Curry clue to Stanford garage robbery

Staff at the Jet garage in Southend Road, Stanford Le Hope, were confronted by five or six men on Wednesday night. One of the employees was punched in the face. The gang made off with £4,000 worth of cigarettes and several hundred pounds in cash.

Praise from government for adult social care

At Wednesday (8 December) evening’s meeting of the cabinet, portfolio holder for Adult Social Care, Cllr Tony Fish, said it “judges the quality and range of services on offer and performance and progress in improving the quality of life and outcomes for people who use services, carers and the wider community. The ratings scale ranges from performing poorly (the lowest), performing adequately, performing well up to performing excellently (the highest).”

Garden grotto goat gives birth in the manger!

Both mother and daughter are doing very well at the centre in Chadwell Road after two members of the staff acted as emergency midwives. The baby has been named Steph-Annie after the two staff members.

Councillor calls for “private” football stadium to kick-start health
