POLICE AND members of the English Defence League clashed on Grays High Street this afternoon after a Muslim stall was upturned and threats were made to burn a copy of the Koran. Member of the EDL and Hope not Hate had gathered near to Grays Railway Station around lunchtime today (Saturday).

Now, I’m in favour of electoral reform, as I believe that the current system does not reflect the genuine wishes of the electorate. A lot of people do not vote as there seems to be very little trust in any of the candidates put forward by the political parties therefore a minority effectively dictates who gets into power. That said, I think that the Alternative Vote system is not only a worthless compromise to the more radical alternatives, but also further compounds the inadequacies and unrepresentative nature of the current system. The wood — at Socketts Heath, between Stanford Road, Woodview and King Edward Drive — is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The council wants to do all it can to ensure the correct environment for the bats (which gives the site its SSSI status), its plants which support insects that feed the bats and to help the whole eco system.
Alan Twine, Thurrock crime reduction officer, said: "Thieves often steal number plates to commit other crimes such as making off without paying for petrol, so it can cause a lot of hassle for the car owner if their plates are stolen. "Invest in irreversible screws for your number plates if possible to help prevent this and stay vigilant around your area and report anyone behaving suspiciously around vehicles to police immediately."

On Thursday evening (April 14) a minibus was taken from William Edwards School in Stifford Clays Road and later found abandoned but seriously damaged nearby. The local Thurrock Rugby Club in Long Lane, Grays later reported major damage to their club house and theft of money and Thurrock Harriers Athletics Club then reported that their premises had been broken into and damaged caused. It is believed that the minibus was used in both incidents to break in.
A man has been charged in connection with an attempted theft of metal from a building in Lenthall Avenue, Grays. It is alleged that at around 1am on Wednesday, April 13, suspects attempted to steal an estimated £300 worth of lead flashing.
