Police go walkabout in Grays next week

Alongside the event a Partner Walkabout Day will also take place in and around the town centre. The highly successful events allow residents and members of the community to raise concerns direct with officers. Flyers and postcards are distributed before the event to allow problems to be highlighted – then on the Walkabout Day as many of these issues as possible are solved immediately.

Police announce zero increase in council tax contributions

The police council tax for a Band D property will be the same as last year at £132.12 ( Band D is used as the base for calculating the tax). This means that council tax payers in Essex will not see any increase in their council tax for policing. Acting Chairman of Essex Police Authority, Neil Macdonald said: "It is good news that the people of Essex will not have to pay anymore than they have in terms of council tax for policing in the next year.

Strong reaction to road safety survey on Southend Road

Cllr Phil Anderson says: “We launched our survey two weeks ago, and we have had an excellent response. Over 10% of households surveyed have now sent in an reply, and many of these give detailed information and suggestions. We know that this issue affects more than those who live on or near Southend Road. Many motorists and cyclists users use the road daily, pedestrians have to cross it, and there are several primary schools in the area.

Final dress rehearsals were under way at Hassenbrook School yesterday in preparation for the school production ‘The Wiz’.
