Come to Dilkes Park this weekend

COME DOWN to Dilkes Park this weekend for a great community celebration event. The event will be from Noon to 3pm. Participating organisations include: South Ockendon Community Forum, Veolia, Thurrock Council, Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions. Various members of the community will be holding stalls.

Hundreds flock to “Big Lunch” at Grays Town Park

IT was all smiles at The Big Lunch on Wednesday (24 July) as hundreds of people flocked to Grays Town Park with their picnics under a blazing sun. The fifth Big Lunch proved it is growing in popularity every year on the borough’s summer event calendar.

THE IDEA of Highland cows and Thurrock might seem an odd combination – but Thurrock Council’s rangers have ensured the breed is thriving here. Much of the grassland on Langdon Hills Country Park is under Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) - a grant from Natural England awarded to sites which are managed in an environmentally friendly way.

THE GREAT blooming tea party in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care took place in Allenby Crescent, Grays organized by Mrs Pam Dosanjh. To allow for all the festivities to take place the road was closed and there were loads of different attractions on offer.

Pop Idol’s Gareth Gates headlines great weekend for T-Fest

THE RAIN stayed away, the sun shone and for the sixth year in a row, T-Fest brought the crowds in at Grays beach park. After a long weekend, Pop Idol star, Gareth Gates stepped up on stage and put together a seamless twenty-five minute set including hit singles such as "Spirit in the Sky" and many more.

A fun summer down at Mardyke Woods

THIS summer, Mardyke Woods in South Ockendon is hosting fun, free activities for the whole family to enjoy, with the help of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Veolia North Thames Trust. For a fun afternoon with your little ones, bring a picnic and favourite teddy to a Teddy Bears Picnic on Thursday 15th August 12pm – 3pm by the Cherwell Grove playground. Activities will include meeting farm animals, giant garden games, face painting and a soft play area.

Mayor sends best wishes to Duke and Duchesss

THE MAYOR of Thurrock, cllr Tony Fish, has sent a letter of congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their son George, prince of Cambridge. The announcement was made at full council after Stanford West councillor, Shane Hebb, called for the chamber to send their congratulations regarding the happy event, which took place on Monday, July 22nd.

White Admiral seen on One Tree Hill

THE dedication of Thurrock Council’s rangers at Langdon Hills Country Park has had spectacular results this summer. Two species of butterfly – the white admiral (Ladoga Camilla) and the silver-washed fritillary (Argynnis Paphia) have returned to the area for the first time in many years.

Thurrock Writers Circle: July Report

JULY has been a progressive month for the TWC. Chairman Joy Ridgewell thanked Cindy Barker for the excellent tasks that she has set for the group. Writing has improved and everyone is enjoying the experience. Two members went for a five day writing week to Ruskin College in Oxford and a further writing weekend is booked for September for nine more members.

Free swimming for kids at Impulse Leisure this weekend

On Saturday 27th July & Sunday 28th July, Impulse Leisure are offering FREE* swimming for kids under eight at Blackshots, Corringham and Belhus Park as part of the Change4Life scheme. ‘While it’s great to relax after a long school year, it’s also important to make sure that kids stay active during the holidays – and the longer days are the perfect time for adults to join in and give something new a try, too,’ says Karl Hayes, Group Operations Manager. ‘Kids aged five to 16 need to do at least 60 minutes of physical activity that gets their heart beating faster than usual, and they need to do it every day to burn off calories and prevent them storing up excess fat. So why not take advantage of our free sessions and make sure this summer is a happy and healthy one?’

Rotary of Corringham take special needs club fishing

FOR the eighteenth consecutive year, members of the Rotary Club of Corringham Thameside played host to a group of Special Needs children from the Special Needs Activity Club in Grays, at their annual fishing day at South Ockendon on Sunday 21st July 2013.

Bus information upgrade across the borough

THURROCK Council and its partners EssexCounty and Southend have announced - following a full upgrade - the installation of new technologies at bus stops will be active from Thursday (25 July) this week. Bus users across Essex will see departure information on the electronic information signs, after several months of the real-time displays not showing information.
