TWO kind-hearted Thurrock councillors have come to the aid of a local photographer after he had his bicycle stolen from outside his Chadwell home.

ON Thursday Aug 1st Mrs Lynne Eckley, together with her daughter, Jill, and grandson, Dan, travelled to Little Havens Hospice for Children in Rayleigh. After a tour of the facilities, she presented the hospice with a cheque for £800. The money was in lieu of flowers at the funeral of her late husband, Gordon Eckley, a well loved teacher and sportsman in Thurrock. The total money donated came to £1000, some of it going to St. Luke’s.
JULY 31st was World Ranger Day and Thurrock’s rangers joined in the celebrations.
A barbeque and glow-worm walk was organised at Langdon Hills Country Park with around 30 friends and volunteers from Langdon Hills and Coalhouse raising £150 towards the Thin Green Line foundation, bringing the overall total raised by the Thurrock Council’s ranger service to £1,000.

Thurrock Council’s youth team is organising four hours of Urban Games from noon on Thursday, 22 August. Hosted by celebrity basketball freestyler Big Fen, the free event includes everything from freestyle basketball to break dance and parkour and BMX, skateboarding and self-defence.

My groups are suitable for all who want to learn Yoga, de-stress or had a bad experience and nervous about joining a yoga group. Sorry they are not suitable for the intermediate/advanced practitioner looking for greater challenges.
IN the summer of 1914 the dark cloud of war fell over Europe. Despite the belief that it would be “all over by Christmas” the First World or Great War destroyed lives until November 1918 and beyond.
Cy Honeyman, 38 from Grays, and Jon Garthwaite, 38 from Southampton, are mid-way through their challenge to run ten marathons each in a year to raise £10,000 for Little Havens Hospice. The men took on the challenge in memory of Cy’s daughter, and Jon’s goddaughter, Megan who would have celebrated her 10th birthday this year. Megan had a life-limiting illness known as Global Developmental Delay. She was also diagnosed with Epilepsy and both conditions caused a complex list of symptoms which grew increasingly difficult to manage. When Megan was three, the family turned to Little Havens Hospice for respite care.
IN MARCH, Sainsbury's launched our hunt for our Charity Of The Year 2013/14. They were in-undated with votes from a wide range of charities and community groups across the borough. Their Colleague Council then had the difficult decision of who we would support.
The club’s vision is to create a purpose built facility to cater for the football club and wider community, made possible through the development and sale of their current ground at Mill Field. This will release value that can be invested in new, sustainable sports facilities. Mill Field had previously been identified by Thurrock Council as a suitable site for new housing, allowing proposals to comply with their emerging planning policy framework.
THE first of Thurrock Council’s “hubs” has been so successful it attracted over 36,000 people in its first 15 weeks. The council’s community portfolio holder, Cllr Lynn Worrall, told Wednesday (24 July) evening’s meeting of the council: “Over 20 partner organisations are using the centre on a regular basis to provide services from health checks to foot care and information and advice supporting a wide range of needs in the area.”
FOR the three previous years, three Thurrock parks won the accolade, but work to re-establish Grays Beach Riverside Park following last year’s blaze was still going on when the judges visited the borough and the park was not entered for the competition by the council.
