Horse passport clinic proves a great success

IN April Thurrock Council ran a horse passport and chipping event in Tilbury which proved a huge success, and now a second event is planned. The event was organised by the council’s trading standards team and it is continuing to check every horse in the borough has the correct paperwork – a horse passport – and is in good health.

Two arson attacks in Tilbury at weekend

FIRE crews were called out twice to the Tilbury area at the weekend to deal with fires to buildings. Firefighters were called to tackle a blaze involving the external cladding on a scout hut on St Chads Road, Tilbury.

Linford man set to appear in court on dangerous driving charge

A MAN arrested in connection with an rtc in Grays which involved a collision between a car and a pedestrian has been charged. Martin Button, 42, of Lower Crescent in Linford, has been charged with causing injury by dangerous driving in connection with the rtc which happened in Dock Road at its junction with Rectory Road in Grays on February 25, 2014.

Hundreds enjoy family weekend at Tilbury cruise terminal

THE weekend opened with a rousing performance from Tilbury Brass Band on Saturday morning, followed by performances from the Jacqui Couves School of Dance and a local gospel choir. On Sunday morning, the Tilbury Majorettes performed whilst welcoming visitors to the Cruise Terminal and Thurrock Golden Voices sang a medley of war-themed songs. Visitors got involved with flag-waving and singing along, making it a real highlight of the weekend.

Volunteers in Thurrock raise £955 for Diabetes UK Big Collection

PEOPLE from Thurrock joined together to raise £955 for Diabetes UK at Tesco Extra in West Thurrock. The Big Collection is a nationwide fundraising event for Diabetes UK and this year it took place in 328 Tesco stores across the UK on 13, 14 and 15 June, which marked the end of Diabetes Week.

Private carers invited to special workshop

PEOPLE who care for children privately are being advised about a special workshop next month. The national Private Fostering week starts on Monday, 7 July, and Thurrock Council’s free workshop will be on the Friday – 11 July – at the Culver Centre in Daiglen Drive. South Ockendon, from 9.30am to 11am.

Clampdown on anti-social behaviour in South Ockendon

FOLLOWING the success of a campaign targeting anti-social behaviour and irresponsible use of alcohol in Corringham last year, a second scheme is set to be launched in South Ockendon. The Corringham Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP) involves various Thurrock Council departments – including trading standards and licensing - Essex Police, and local off-licence retailers.

YEAR 2 teacher Natasha Moore explained: “Mountfitchet Castle offered a unique experience for the children to travel back in time 900 years, to witness life in a Norman Motte and Bailey castle and village. In a fun and imaginative way, the children discovered and learnt about the lives of Norman people by exploring the many houses and exhibits reconstructed as they were during the Norman times.”

Music with distinction at Palmer’s College
