TWO lorry drivers who took turns to drive a truck for 28 hours without an adequate rest break have been fined after being stopped as part of a police road safety check in Essex. The truckers had travelled from Bulgaria and were on their way with parcels for Stansted airport when they were intercepted on the M25 on Wednesday September 20 and taken to a check site at Moto services, Thurrock.
The seven-and-a-ton truck was taken after the driver was assaulted in Thurrock at about 1.30am today, Thursday September 20. Officers located the lorry but it failed to stop and was followed on the M25, A12 and A13 before it was stopped at Tilbury at about 3am.
A house in Hathaway Road, Grays, was broken in to between 5pm and 8.10pm on September 2, via a rear upstairs bedroom window. Stolen from inside was an Apple iPad, a three-figure sum of cash, two Apple iPod and a Fuji camera.

MYSTERY surrounds a reported "ram-raid" on a shop in Corringham Town Centre.
Essex Police were called to Shaders in St Johns Way, Corringham at just after mid-night on Monday September 17th after a report that a car had ram-raided the shop.
With the assistance of the police helicopter, the area was searched and two men were arrested nearby. A 37-year-old man from South Ockendon and a 39-year-old man from East London remain in police custody.
A SPECIAL CONSTABLE from Chafford Hundred has launched a claim for unfair dismissal after being sacked from the Metropolitan Police for making racist remarks in a police locker room.
Rosanna Garofalo, of Frances St, Chafford Hundred, was secretly recorded making the comments to a police officer at the Tolpuddle Street station in Angel, Islington in March.
A police spokesperson said: "This was a very strange incident whereby a woman found a strange man in her kitchen. She escorted the man off her premises and rightly contacted the police. We would like the public’s help in identifying him to prevent anyone else having a similar experience.”
A 61-year-old man from Stanford-le-hope in Thurock has pleaded guilty to illegal money lending but denied 13 other charges during a hearing at Basildon Crown Court. The illegal money lender was investigated by the England Illegal Money Lending Team, working in partnership with Thurrock Council and Essex Police.
A LORRY driver who took only a three-hour rest break during an 18-hour journey around England has been fined during a road safety operation in Essex. The Turkish-registered vehicle had been driven from Dover to Manchester and to the Midlands to collect a hazardous load of chemicals but was stopped at Thurrock as it headed back to the Channel port for a return journey to Istanbul.

POLICE arrested a 75-year-old man from Grays, on suspicion of careless driving following a four vehicle collision in Southend Road, Grays, which left a motorcyclist in hospital.
The collision happened at 9.10pm on Sunday, September 9, and involved a silver Honda CRV, a white and red Suzuki motorcycle, black London taxi, and a blue Mazda 6 which was stationary.
THURROCK burglars have an almost 50% chance of walking free from their local courts, according to figures released by the Ministry of Justice. With Grays magistrates court closing last year, all cases go to Basildon magistrates or crown courts.
