Thurrock’s Youth Orchestra forge an entente cordiale

THIRTY young musicians from Thurrock Youth Orchestra and Thurrock Youth Big Band showed off their talents in France earlier this month. It was as part of the Act (A Common Territory) cross-Channel partnership - an innovative collaboration between leading arts and education partners from France and England and funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Thurrock Art Society exhibition at The Swan

THE summer exhibition of the Thurrock Art Society is on at the Swan Gallery in Horndon on the Hill. The exhibition runs from July 20th to August 15th and is situated in the gallery above The Swan pub.

It is Big Lunch time again in Grays

ORGANISERS of the sixth Grays Big Lunch are planning a day of family fun at the end of the month. Wednesday, 30 July is the date, and 11am to 3pm is the time for the annual one-day get together at Grays Town Park, off Bedford Road - bring a picnic and a blanket to sit on!

AS awful as it sounds to be so obsessed with a material thing, my phone is an important possession of mine; it constantly keeps me in the loop and up to date with everything, to do with my friends, family, school, and the media. If I’m not on my phone, I’ll be listening to music from it or it’ll be in my pocket. To be completely honest, I think there has probably only been a few days in the five years I’ve had a phone when I’ve gone out without it.
 Recently, I chose to go out with my family and leave my phone at home.

LANGDON Hills Country Park is hosting family-friendly and free bicycle rides every month until the winter offering a great way to see the countryside up close. The monthly rides are led by Thurrock Council’s Rangers and follow cycle paths across the Country Park and surrounding land.

IT was Friday, so off to my boy's u9 cricket 'el Classico' Belhus v Horndon. It's the away leg for our go-ahead Belhus club team. All the boys are brilliant. Truly entertaining fare and our team edge it by just one run. Sunday, it is an all day football tournament at st clere's school in Stanford-le-hope. All day because my daughters u11 LTD team played in the morning and the afternoon with my Son fits in nine games for his Thurrock FC u8s. What a truly well run football tournament, the best organised that i have attended. St clere's is a cooperative academy school and clearly the school work hard with their local community. Long may this continue.

St Clere’s student set for court to face “threats to kill and offensive weapon charges

A ST CLERE'S school pupil has been charged with taking a knife into school and threatening to kill two fellow pupils. An Essex police spokesman said: “We were contacted shortly before 9am on Wednesday, July 2nd, and asked to attend St Clere’s School, Butts Lane, Stanford-le-Hope due to reports of a boy threatening two 12-year-old children via BlackBerry Messenger.

Fire in travellers site in North Stifford

CREWS have been called to tackle a blaze involving a rubbish pile spread across 60m x 30m on a travellers site. Firefighters arriving at the scene reported that half the mixed rubbish pile was well alight and they set to work using two hose reels to extinguish flames.

New play area to be opened at Thameside Nature Park

THE Essex Wildlife Trust is opening a new play area at its visitor centre in Thameside Nature Park on Saturday 19th July. Drug bust in Corringham as police swoop across South Essex
