Warning after thefts from key safes lead to burglaries

PEOPLE who have key safes outside their homes are being asked to make sure they are fitted securely and positioned carefully. The advice follows a couple of recent incidents in Thurrock whereby attempts were made to gain entry to properties by attempts to remove the safe.

ESSEX Police is taking part in a national campaign this week to raise awareness of domestic abuse issues and the response of the police and partner agencies. Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh has made a commitment from Essex Police to offer better protection and support to victims of domestic abuse.

THE first man is described as white, 6ft 8ins tall, with short black hair, was unshaven, wearing black trousers, a black shirt and black coat. He spoke with a northern accent and was aged in his 20s. The second was also white, stocky, 5ft 6ins tall, with short ginger hair, wearing black trousers, a navy jacket and was about 24-years-old.

Man arrested, pedestrian seriously injured after collision in Rectory Road, Grays

RECTORY Road in Grays closed in both directions between the A126 Dock Road junction and the Crescent Avenue junction, because of an accident. Police would like to hear from any motorists or pedestrians who were in the area at the time and who witnessed the incident or events leading up to it. Police in search of “hot” furnace

POLICE want to hear from anyone with information about the theft of a furnace from a warehouse in Alfred Street in Grays. Thieves got into the Grays Auction Rooms sometime between 4pm on Friday February 7 and 10.30am the next day, by forcing the padlock on the shutters and then the front door.

Two arrested after making off from crash in East Tilbury

A COLLISION between two cars in East Tilbury led to the arrest of two people suspected of taking a car without permission. The incident happened at 11am on Wednesday February 19th when a Seat car failed to stop for police officers in Linford.

Thousands gone as safe stolen from F1 Karting in Grays

POLICE would like to hear from anyone with information about a burglary which took place at F1 Karting Limited off Motherwell Way in Grays just before 11.55pm on Saturday February 1. Thieves smashed through a brick wall at the rear of the premises to get in, activating an alarm in the process. They then removed a safe, which was ripped from its bolts in the floor, from the premises.

Grays man pleads guilty to stealing thousands from Afghan war hero

GRAYS MAN Conor Aldous has pleaded guilty to stealing £2,500 from the bank account of grievously injured war hero Alex Stringer. Private Stringer, a former student at William Edwards lost both legs and an arm by a land mine in 2011.

Teen dies, teen arrested as murder investigation launched in Grays

DETECTIVES from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate have launched a murder enquiry after a male teenager received serious injuries following an incident at premises off Roseberry Road, Grays this morning (February 17). Police were called at about 11am to a flat where they found the victim with knife wounds and gave immediate first aid, however he was declared deceased by medical staff a short while later.

Grays man set to face charges of Nighthawking

A GRAYS man is due to appear in court later this week accused of stealing a £15,000 coin in Cambridgeshire and a gold Roman coin in Norfolk through Nighthawking. Nighthawking is illegal metal-detecting on archaeological sites, or other areas of archaeological interest, and private land in order to recover treasure or other items of value. It is performed where permission to survey and dig has been refused or never sought.

Down to zero…Not a single burglary in Thurrock solved in December.

IN December 2013, there were 120 burglaries in Thurrock. According to the website, www.police.uk, not a single burglary in the whole of the borough was solved. Many thought things were bad in October, when out of 100 burglaries, just two were solved but these new figures shine a bright light on a new low. For some it will be no surprise and they will no doubt point to the drastic cuts in the police budget as one of the root causes of the problem. If a football team was only putting out five players every week, would anyone be surprised if they were being overwhelmed?

Four charged over Ship Lane burglaries

FURTHER enquiries led to the arrest of three other men at the Lakeside Retail Park, also on February 6. Kenny Bulmer, 18, of Martin Road, Aveley, Jay Cartwright, 25, of Haig Road, Chadwell St Mary, and Mark Bulmer, 20, of no fixed address, were all charged with one count of burglary with intent to steal.
