Vandals winning the graffiti battle in South Ockendon

The council have arranged for several bridges and underpasses to have murals painted on them in an effort to stop vandals spray painting “tags” and other unauthorised graffiti on them. In most cases the scheme has been successful, but not in Ockendon where the mural on the “zig-zag bridge” over the railway line at Tamarisk Road has been constantly tagged and had obscene graffiti plastered over it.

Drink drivers nose to tail at Basildon magistrates court

Ross Swain, 28 an unemployed insulation engineer from Digby Road, Corringham was stopped by Essex Police on King Street, Stanford-le-Hope at 0145 on Sunday 27th November. Andrew Brackenbury, 25, Cornwall Gate, Purfleet was stopped by Essex Police on Friday 25th November, 2011 in Eskely Gardens, South Ockendon.

Don’t risk your safety by using an unlicensed taxi

There are two kinds of licensed taxis – the first are Hackney Carriages and in Thurrock have yellow stickers and yellow licence plates. They can be hailed in the street or be hired from a taxi rank and must use a meter for any journey. Private hire vehicles have green stickers and plates and they must be pre-booked and cannot be hailed on the street.

Daylight armed robbery in jewellery heist in Stanford-le-Hope

Police were called at 2.50pm to a robbery that had just taken place at Stanford Jewellers in Kings Parade, Stanford Le Hope on Thursday, December 8. Two white men and one black man entered the shop and stole watches and jewellery. They got away in a black Volkswagen Passat car.

Outrage as Ockendon drink driver caught twice in a month escapes jail

Ockendon man Richard Ince then complains about the 80 hours of unpaid work sentence imposed upon him. Richard Ince, 59, Rosies Way, South Ockendon was stopped twice on separate occasions by Essex Police in November in relation to drink driving. The second occasion was on the 27th November. The court heard that he refused to give a roadside breath test, claiming he had asthma. The court also heard that he called the police "liars" and "didn't they have better things to do."

Police renew appeal over missing Tilbury man

Police are renewing their appeal for information about a man missing from his home since beginning of November. Despite appeals for information nothing further has been heard. Paul McEwan , 49, had not been seen for at least 19 days near his address in Adelaide Road, Tilbury.

Unlimited ASBO imposed on Chadwell St Mary pensioner

The order was made following conviction of Rixson for criminal damage at a hearing in Basildon Magistrates Court on Wednesday 16th November 2011. He was given a conditional discharge for 18 months and ordered to pay £50 costs and £617 in compensation.

Chadwell man remanded over armed robbery and kidnap at matalan

Nathaniel Johnson, 23, Godman Road, Chadwell St Mary spoke only to confirm his name and address at Basildon magistrates court. He was accompanied by Daniel Bent, 24, Ardsley Road, East London. Both men are accused of kidnapping at gunpoint, an employee of Matalan's in Western Avenue, Lakeside and then robbing the store of £19.064 on Friday December 2nd.

Large jewellery haul after police raid houses in Tilbury

Police have recovered a large quantity of jewellery which they believe has been stolen, as part of burglary investigations in the Tilbury area. Officers are hoping to reunite the items with their rightful owner, and need the public’s help to identify who they belong to.

Chadwell man set for jail after £15,000 theft from scouts

Two roll-on, roll-off containers lent to the Scouts by ED Edwards Waste Management Ltd of Roydon were also stolen. One contained camping and other equipment while the second was used to store builder’s tools. Reader, who claimed he at his fiancée’s home in South Ockendon on the night of the thefts, denied three offences of theft but was convicted by the jury after just two hours of deliberation.

WHEN ten-year-old "Jessica" from Tilbury went round to her friends, she didn't realise that she would spark a search that would end up with the police helicopter scouring the area but also a twitter appeal that ended with comedian and film star, Eddie Izzard also tweeting that she had been missing.

Update: Men due in court over armed robbery and kidnap at Matalan, Lakeside

A few hours later, 23-year-old property manager Daniel Bent from Amberley Road in Leyton and 24-year-old student Nathaniel Johnson from Godman Road in Grays were arrested in the Thurrock area and subsequently each charged with one count of robbery, one count of kidnap and one count of being in possession of an imitation firearm.

Two arrested after armed robbery at Matalan in Lakeside

Two men entered Matalan in Western Avenue, Lakeside at just before 10pm last night (Friday). Once there, they threaten a 30-year-old employee with a shotgun and made off with what Essex Police describe as a five figure sum. An Essex Police spokesperson said: "A 23-year-old man from Grays and a 24-year-old man from East London were arrested in the Thurrock area.

Danielle’s killer complains over wages in prison

The murderer questioned the right of bosses at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire to force him to work on public holidays without getting a bonus. He said: 'There has been a rather disturbing development here at HMP Wakefield. 'I work in the kitchens and have just been informed that this Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year's Day we kitchen workers will be required to work as normal for no extra pay.
